We often hear today from people that they call themselves Christians and this could be because of a few factors. The factors might be that they were told that if they pray a prayer, they become a Christian; they were raised in a Christian household and think that that is why they are Christians; or they go to church to name a few examples. It is not, however, possible to become a Christian by repeating a prayer that someone leads you in that brings about salvation, it is when you repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in the finished work of Jesus on the cross that you become saved when He becomes your LORD and Savior. It is great that people might have been raised in a Christian household, but that doesn't mean that their parents' faith is automatically passed onto them, rather they need to realize it and make it true in their own life. Just because someone goes to church does not make them a Christian, the same way that going into a garage doesn't cause that person to become a mechanic.
During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says in Matthew 7:13-14 that there are 2 different paths: a straight and narrow or a wide and broad path. The straight and narrow leads to life, while the wide and broad leads to death. He says that there are very few who find the straight and narrow. Part of this is because of all the pressure that society puts on people to be accepted by the culture. As Christians, we are not supposed to be conforming to the ways of this world, rather we are to be seeking to honor and please the LORD in everything we do, say, and think. The straight and narrow is difficult for a reason because those who will hold true to the end will receive their reward of eternal life in the presence of GOD, our Father and Creator!
